Power Outage Advisory

WINTER STORM ADVISORY

The Black River Falls Municipal Utilities (BRFMU) is asking customers to prepare for the possibility of power outages as a result of the pending winter storm. Forecasts call for a combination of large amounts of heavy snow and high winds, creating a greater risk of fallen tree limbs and power outages.

We urge customers to consider:

  • Stocking up on non-perishable food or plan for meals that do not require electricity to prepare
  • Ensure electronic devices are fully charged and new/spare batteries are readily available
  • Have blankets and warm clothes available

BRFMU asks that customers exercise patience while our crews work to restore power. Fallen limbs, high winds, and treacherous road conditions can make restoration efforts difficult. Although our crews will work quickly to restore power, safety is paramount and will always be our primary concern.

NOTE: During widespread outages, our line crew typically assesses the situation and will prioritize efforts that will restore power to the largest number of customers first, along with critical facilities such as the hospital. This typically results in restoration efforts concentrating on substations and distribution circuits initially, proceeding to smaller sections of circuits, and eventually repairing individual service lines. Therefore, if you see a line truck in front of your house leave without your power restored, our line crew may have determined that your individual service line is down and will be back when the larger scale restoration efforts are complete. Again, please be patient as our crews will get to you as soon as they are able.

If you experience an outage, please report the outage by calling the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department at 715-284-5357, Extension 180.
